Isn’t alcohol flammable?

To the best of my knowledge Alcohol is flammable.  If these bottles are actually filled with alcohol shouldn't these be like throwing bottle or petrol bombs?  Can someone please help me understand this?  If this is technically not possible, then it's worth investigating.

This picture appeared in Daily Times Page A3 today.  You can also see it on ABC News

Do you really think that our authorities are that pious that they would waste so much liquor ? Inflammable or not, isnt  the question – Piety is.

  2. Technically, yes. But alcoholic drinks are not pure alcohol. They are diluted in water and have other things like sugar for flavor added. The alcohol is very rarely more than 40%.

  3. The alcohol present in drinks is ethanol. These hydrcarbons contain many chemical bonds and in turn a large energy potential. When the the alcohol is lit by a another sourse of energy(lighter) the bonds break rapidly releasing energy inthe form of heat. Fossil fuels such as petroleum and coal contain hydrocarbons. As a point of interest internal combustion engines do not efficiently harvest the energy contained in fossil fuels and hence pollute the atosphere.
