You may however ask yourselves this one question: whoever these terrorists are, plan well and very comprehensively. They factor in each and every variation before executing whatever they have planned. I fail to believe that these elements have never targeted any VVIP movement/procession. They definitely do think about such a high profile target and may even have targeted them. Have they ever succeeded ? No. Question is why not. Answer is that the scanning and combing of the area and route is extremely effective and comprehensive, and the scanners and bomb detection units, and jammers are state of the art since the VVIP is moving. And why isn’t the same equipment available for the Ashura and Chehlum processions ? Because the so-called riff-raff of society, the you’s and me’s are the potential victims, and that our lives are worthless. Are our lives worthless ? I leave the answer for you to say.

Part V It is Febraury 5th, 2010 today, and as I type away, my heart cries tears of sorrow and frustration – sorrow for the infinitely valuable and priceless lives lost today in the two blasts. It was shocking and what was even more shocking – expected to an extent though – was the lethargy and inaction shown by the Government post fact. Will they ever wake up is question that I’d rather not ask since I have a fair idea what the answer would be. A verse in urdu but produced in the roman script is produced below:- Agar yehi haal raha Saqi, mekhaanoan ka Dhair lag jaaye ga toote huay pemanoan ka Qaihat dunya mein hai ab aaisay Musulmaanoan ka Zor jo tor detay thay toofaanoan ka Koi Khalid hai na Tariq hai na Ibn e Qasim Raasta saaf hai barrte hooay shetaanaoan ka Jis jaga chaho jahan chaho baha do issko Khoon iss daur mein sasta hai Musulmaanoan ka We actually don’t need Tariq Bin Ziyad or Khalid Bin Waleed or even Mohammad Bin Qasim – our 170 million awaam is more than enough to cure the lethargy which afflicts us. As written earlier, why don’t we believe in the POWER OF WE ? Why is this nation based on I ? I represents a unit whereas WE represents a collective pool of energies and synergies of 170 million. Why are we so dependent on that elite of a few thousand to lead us through to the future ? Have they done that so far ? Don’t they have a track record of serving their own interests ? And the questions – reflective of my growing frustration – keep on and on and on… The callousness of this nation can be gauged from the fashion shows, catwalks, concerts, exhibitions etc that are continuing despite the tragedies that are befalling us. I personally am appalled when the Awaam claims inaction on the part of the government. Ulema have claimed that had the culprits responsible for the Ashura tragedy been arrested pronto, today would never have unfolded in this tragic fashion. My question – who voted them in and moreso knowing full well their propensity to serve their own interests be it at the cost of lives on the innocent citizens of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan ? And now we have the audacity to crib ? Allow me to print in bold: We the 170 million Awaam of Pakistan are the real power of this country – these few thousand who call themselves the Government, are the government but they derive their power from US. Stop cribbing and stand up for yourselves. If you want to be counted, then you will have to stand up. If you think that cribbing in your drawing rooms will help, it most certainly will not. Stand up and be counted. Who were the perpetrators of these and many other blasts ? The easier scapegoats to blame are the Americans, the Mossad, RAW etc etc. But tell me one thing – can these agencies actually operate in this country on their own ? Can they even move without local logistical support ? Impossible would be my guess. Who knowingly or unknowingly supports them ? It is you and me. Who rents out houses to them ? Who provides vehicles and local know-how to them ? And then, the final suicide bombers or triggers are never these agencies themselves, that is if they are the perpetrators in the first place – it is the frustrated and demoralized ordinary Pakistani, the you and me who end up causing untold misery. Don’t you think it would be worth it uniting and starting to move forward ourselves since our so-called leaders are in absolutely no mood to do so ? And then our so-called media figures take pride in attending parties thrown by the US Embassy and having their pictures taken frolicking with people who could be representing the CIA ? Someone just said that our major problem has always been that we have never considered ourselves to be Pakistanis – we are always referring to ourselves as Punjabis, Sindhis, Pathans, Balochis, Mohajirs etc. Absolutely correct !!! And do you know why so ? Our identity crisis is our inheritance from the Pakistan movement. Pakistan was carved out of India based on the notion that the Muslims of this subcontinent needed a separate homeland to practice their religion freely and where their customs could be guarded. And yet, in his first address to the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan, the Quaid e Azam said, “ You are free; you are free to go to your temples; you are free to go to your mosques or to any other place of worship in this state of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion or caste or creed – that has nothing to do with the business of the state……….in course of time, Hindus would cease to be Hindus and Muslims would cease to be Muslims, not in the religious sense, because that is the personal faith of each individual, but in the political sense as citizens of the State”. Doesn’t this opening address go against the very reason why Pakistan was created ? And if not so, then why was the need felt in 1971 to further carve out Bangladesh ? Was that not done on linguistic lines bearing in mind that they are Muslims too ? I think it is high time that we faced reality – we are Muslims and I am sure that we are very very proud of being Muslims. That however is our personal faith and has nothing to do with the State or the matters of state. For the outside world, we are Pakistanis – within this country, we are Punjabis, Sindhis, Pathans, Balochis, Mohajirs etc., must recognize this reality, and then learn to live with this reality in cohesion and brotherhood, and work towards a better Pakistan where the mathematical unit would be a citizen of Pakistan, and the collective dynamics would be a force of 170 million united people wanted to be counted. The final question is: presently we are living like and being treated like dogs. Many people will be abhorred by the parallel drawn, but that is my view point. Do we want to continue living like that or do we want to be allowed to live like dignified human beings ? If the former, then please continue to take whatever is doled out to you head down, and do stop cribbing – you just add to the despicability with which I view you. If the latter, then again stop cribbing, stand up, be counted and believe in the power of WE. Pakistan is here to stay – believe me we aint going anywhere and nothing can be done to wish us away. Our leaders have tried their level best to clean us off the face of this planet and they have failed miserably. We are still around despite a mauling that has been going on for 63 years. Either these leaders are useless and impotent, or we are resilient that w just cannot be wishes away. Take solace from that and stand up and be counted, please.
