HOW TO: Add Multitouch Support to Your Nexus One

One of the most common complaints about Google’s new Nexus One Android wunderkind is that it lacks native multitouch support, making things like resizing objects with a finger pinch gesture impossible.

That is, until now. Developer Taimur Asad has posted a set of instructions to install a multitouch add-on for the Nexus One that will enable the missing pinch-to-zoom and other coveted multitouch gestures in the Nexus One’s browser.

The caveats: you’ll have to be prepared to root your phone, which gives you complete access to the Nexus One’s file system akin to jailbreaking an iPhone. You’ll likely also lose your bookmarks and browser settings when installing the multi-touch code.

Still, if you successfully follow the instructions you’ll gain access to the sweet multitouch functionality showcased in the video below. Let us know if you have a chance to try this out.

Daily Times reported the same item as "No need to import wheat in 2010 as reserves intact"

–

A persistent drought-like situation has endangered the yield of wheat crop in Barani as well as irrigated areas, according to federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Livestock Nazar Mohammad Gondal.

Expressing concern over the situation, Mr Gondal said: “We should pray for rain … Only prayers can avert low yield of wheat this year.”

Mr Gondal was talking to reporters after addressing members of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI).

According to him, there was a 30 per cent decrease in sowing in barani areas and there was a three per cent increase in canal-fed crop area.

Sowing, which started in October last year, was affected by low rainfall.

Mr Gondal said that the crop in irrigated areas would also be affected if there was no rain.

An abundance of soil moisture in rain-fed and irrigated lands had helped seeds to germinate, but pesticides or fertiliser could not be applied to plants at an advanced growth stage without adequate presence of water in soil. The minister’s assertion was corroborated by Executive District Officer of the Punjab Agricultural Department Syed Hamidullah Shah.

Mr Shah said that not only the sowing was 30 per cent less in rain-fed areas, but “30 per cent of the remaining 70 per cent is also being threatened by lack of rain”.

Barani areas produce 10 per cent of the country’s wheat, and water available in small dams was inadequate for the crop. Without rain, he said, the standing canola crop in rain-fed areas would also be affected.

Mr Gondal said that the country was safe in terms of food security. “There is enough wheat in government stock. The government will not have to import wheat this year. However, there will be no export,” he said.

According to Mr Gondal, cotton production “will exceed 13 million bales this year”. Optimum agricultural produce could be guaranteed if growers got reasonable prices for their crops, he said.

The food minister said the government had approved 32 small dams in rain-fed areas to ensure adequate water supply.

He said that President Asif Zardari would inaugurate a small dam near Chakwal on Friday, adding that funds for 12 small dams had been released. He said the government was negotiating with a US seed company to “assist our farmers to increase yield”.

About post-harvest losses, he said the government had allocated Rs27 billion for building warehouses and storage facilities, adding that it was also giving 50 per cent subsidy on agricultural machinery.

Excuse me? Worse than it is now? Is this some sort of a joke?

The sugar crisis may get worse in coming months with an estimated decline of over one million tons in production this year.

The government said in the National Assembly on Monday that there was enough sugar last year, but this year there have been severe problems because of hoarding in view of an expected rise in international prices and reduction in sugarcane production.

Answering a question raised by Begum Nuzhat Sadiq, Industries and Production Minister Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani presented figures which indicated that the country was heading for yet another sugar crisis.

The minister said the annual consumption of sugar was 4.2 million tons, or 350,000 tons per month, and estimates suggested that production during 2009-2010 would be three million tons.

In order to meet the shortage, Mr Bijarani said, the government was importing 500,000 of tons sugar through the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) and 750,000 tons with the help of private sector by the end of March. He said that the government planned to maintain strategic reserves of 500,000 tons.

The government recently increased the official sugar price (at utility stores) by Rs7 to Rs45 per kg. But because of the persistent shortage, largely blamed on cartelisation in the sugar industry, and long queues at utility stores, people have to buy sugar at Rs70 per kg in the open market.

Yet another food related statement made by the government. I'm posting this here for a quick reminder when the same minister will be explaining why there is gross shortage of whatever and why billions of tonnes of it need to be imported. Just in case I forget...

Wheat sowing in arid zone might be reduced by 30 percent due to less rain this year, but on the other hand it could increase by three percent in irrigated areas. Despite the dry spell, reserves are intact and there will be no need to import wheat during 2010.

Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture, Nazar Muhammad Gondal said this during a visit to the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Monday.

Pakistan does not face any kind of pressure form world bank or any other donor agency regarding fixing support prices of agricultural commodities, he said.

The minister was of the view that only a stable political system and sound institutions give assurance for the steady policies. Now business community is on board in financial policy making. “But it is a fact that the Pakistan People’s Party government could not accomplish popular decisions,” he admitted.

The minister said that the situation in Balochistan as well as Gilgit-Baltistan was deteriorating day by day due to interference of foreign elements but the PPP government not only empowered the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, but also announced mega development package for Balochistan. “Now the situation is getting better in these areas and with the timely measures, threats to Pakistan’s integrity are being prevented by the government,” he said.

He said that some 34,000 applications were received from Balochistan for government jobs and this means that the youth of the province that mounted on hills along with arms and ammunition, not only came back but also expressed confidence in the PPP-led government.

He criticised the Punjab government that despite federal government’s opposing, it provided billions of rupees subsidy in the name of Ramazan and Sasti Roti packages. The International Monetary Fund also exerted pressure on Islamabad for not giving subsidy to one particular sector. Now the Punjab government had to increase Rs 25 per mound of wheat to cover the loss occurred due to its ill policies.

The federal minister for food informed the gathering that to meet the water deficiency, the government has planned to construct 25 small dams throughout the country and funds have been released for 12 reservoirs. Work has commenced on two projects while another dam will be inaugurated at Chakwal during the current month. He said that to resolve sugar crises in the country, Economic Coordination Committee has withdrawn sales tax on import of sugar. The government has also offered an incentive to sugar mill owners, that they would supply 30 percent of the total production to utility stores on ex-mill rates and in return sales tax would be written off on their remaining 70 percent production.

He said that as a long-term policy the government has signed Pak-Iran gas pipeline project despite the fact that many countries opposed it. PPP had to face criticism regarding IPPs as it is facing pressure on rental power projects. If treaties with IPPs were not inked in the past, Pakistan would have drowned in permanent darkness. staff report

Will Dr. Afia Siddiqui be released soon? Was her capture and now release just a game played by BOTH Pakistan and American governments?

I believe, the American and Pakistani leadership is about to take poor Pakistani's on a new media and emotion ride. Release of Dr. Afia. The buildup has started, and there's a very very high chance that Mdm. Hilary Clinton will personally deliver her in February. If you watch the news releases closely, you can see it.

Which only means that she was being held and hyped up, to be released at a "suitable" time, i.e. when a distraction is needed. Same as Saddam, OBL?

I wish Pakistanis would educate themselves and start watching these news snippets intelligently. It's all like an open book.

Dr. Afia's mother has already started giving statements to certain channels about how the prime minister is like a son to her and how he has been calling her and reassuring her.

Both British and American leadership has shown concern about why Pakistanis hate them so much even though they're the ones running the country both financially and organizationally. Mr. Gilani made a public statement that the Americans are worried about their perception in Pakistan and release of Dr. Afia will bring them great popularity.

Mr. Haqani has given statement that they're looking for "legal processes" of bringing Afia back.

An open-eye look at the news will make the following intentions quite obvious.

1/ A brand new attempt to remove Asif Zardari from the office is about to begin. A possibility that "something" on Monday 18th January could take care of that.

2/ An obvious affiliation between the prime minister and PML-N has already taken place. Shahbaz Sharif was absent the whole week, President Asif Zardari was in Punjab.

3/ Removal of Asif Zardari will open the door for Mr. Nawaz Sharif to replace him, thus forging a brand new alliance between the remaining ruling party and the "friendly opposition".

4/ Arrival of Afia Siddiqui will give Prime Minister Gilani a brand new life… for a while at least.

A few weeks down, the game will start again. PML-N will not rest until they've seized complete power. A wish no party can ever realize in Pakistan ever again. Not unless they "tweak" the map, which unfortunately some so called democratic forces are not scared of doing, as long as they can suck the nation's blood. One particular senior minister even had the audacity to say it in a public speech.

If the nation does not rise against her own mistakes…… her mistakes are about to rise against her.
